Hola, desde hace un par de dias todas mis webs estan teniendo problemas con Dreamhost, no soy capaz de entender como me pueden decir que consumo demasiado cuando estoy pagando entre 30 y 40 usd mensuales por unos 600 mb de ram por una treintena de webs que tienen pocas visitas, y que antes las tenia aguantando en el hosting virtual de este mismo servidor, pero por seguridad las pase al VPS.

He sospechado que sean ellos mismos que de vez en cuando hagan esto para incentivar a sus clientes a ir aumentando la RAM del servidor teniendo que pagar mas, yo ya lo he hecho y continuan los problemas. Hoy el servidor ha estado caido varias veces y ayer también.

Tambien he pensado que puede ser problema de Wordpress, que utilizo en bastantes de las webs, el spam de Wordpress es increible pero de todas formas desde hace tiempo tengo eliminado el codigo de comentarios del archivo de comentarios y del archivo del articulo para que no entren los robots (me parece increible que Wordpress aun no incluya un sistema de pregunta humana personalizada por defecto, porque el spam sigue desde hace años).

Tambien otra pregunta, les comenté por chat que me dijeran que web exactamente estaba dando problemas y me djeron que no lo podian saber!!! Me parece indignante su respuesta!!! En serio no lo pueden saber? Me comentaron que necesitaria contratar algun experto o algo asi o instalar alguna aplicación para poder encontrar exactamente que parte del codigo o que pagina esta generando el exceso de consumo.

Alguien sabria alguna manera de poder ver que pagina esta dando problemas?

I'm very sorry that you've been experiencing these errors.

I've looked into the cause, and have found that your VPS has been spiking above it's set memory usage. When a VPS spikes above it's set memory limits a couple of things happen on the physical machine on which it runs. First an application called "OOM Killer" is invoked.

This application forcibly ends the process running on the VPS in order to return the guest's usage to a state which is within it's set limit. Now, previously after this happened the VPS would then be able to spawn that same thread, going right back over the memory limit, and it would be killed by OOM killer again.

The main issue with this behavior, was that due to the number of spikes, OOM Killer itself would drive up the load on the physical machine, slowing it down, and causing issues on all customer's VPS. We've prevented this behavior by installing a helper application which runs after OOM Killer has terminated an errant process.

This helper application, temporarily freezes an offending VPS, which prevents it from spiking over the memory limits on a constant basis, and keeps the machine itself running well and other customers from being affected by an under-allocated VPS.

As your VPS is in fact spiking over it's set memory limits, you will experience 500 errors, connection errors, and general site unavailability.

Your VPS has been frozen 51 times according to the following log. This strongly indicates that your memory levels are not sufficient for the sites and/or traffic on your VPS:

2011-09-20 05:18 - psXXXXX exceeded memory ceiling, killed all processes in context


Please understand that while you may not be hitting your disk space or bandwidth limits, these are actually entirely different things. Also, as the spikes typically occur and are then subsequently killed within milliseconds, they often don't register on the panel memory usage graphs at all(We will however be making these logs available in the panel ASAP).
I would highly recommend that you follow the steps in the following wiki articles in order to reduce your usage:

Also, please be aware that the site displaying the error isn't necessarily the one responsible for the total usage involved. For instance, if Site A is using 90% of your allotted memory usage, and then Site B attempts to use an additional 15%, Site B will be 5% over and will get it's script killed, this in turn will invoke our helper script and your VPS will be frozen momentarily.

Lastly, you should consider raising your memory limits via "Private Servers" > "Manage Resources". This will especially make it easier to diagnose the problem without the VPS being frozen while you're attempting to resolve the issue.
