I think selling 2% of your portfolio each year is a very sound advise.DominiosIDN.com ||
I'm taking that approach now with my domains. It's not easy parting with domains at rock bottom prices that will enable them to sell fast, but when you work out the numbers it is a very smart way to keep your portfolio self sustaining and profitable.
So let's say you've got 5,000 domains and you sell 2% of them each year at very reasonable prices in the $500 range. So you'll have to sell 2 per week for a total of 100 each year. That will generate a $50K rev stream which will more than cover the entire cost of your annual reg fees for your entire portfolio plus provide a $15K profit to cover the reg fees to buy another 2,000 new domiains.
These are no big sums of money, but the strategy works perfectly on all levels of quality portfolio. Whether you have 500 domains or 500,000 domains.
Far too many of us become obsessed with accumulating and not being sellers. That is fine if you were fortunate enough to have acquired some of the superb one word domains early on and have sustainable built-in growth protection via that rev stream.
But for newer domainers, I think this formula is the way to go so you can build your portfolio steadily and virtually risk free even if you have just average quality properties. And this way whatever amount of PPC or domains developed income you make is all gravy and doesn't have to go back to pay for supporting your portfolio costs and the cost to continue to add more domains each year.
...with more and more domainers coming into the market, prices are just going up and up and up with no justification. Domainer A is holding 3 number.org; paid $400; wants to sell for profit. Domainer B is new to the market and wants to make an investment. is happy to pay $600 for this new investment, as he just wants to get into the market. Domainer C is new to the market, and is happy to pay $900 for it to get into the market. And then there are the domainers who feel that they value a name more than other people since they have more money and therefore they will pay more than another person.DominiosIDN.com ||
So what people are really investing in, especially in non-typein names, is the intuition of the initial buyer.
